About Us - Ennis Performance HorsesMark and Katie Ennis were married in Custer, SD in August 2005. After owning and showing performance horses and using them for ranching they both had an idea of what they liked in a horse. They were introduced to Cutting and decided to start breeding and raising horses that would excel in the Cutting and Cowhorse industry as well as hold their own on the ranch. Acquiring a few cowbred mares they bred them to stallions they liked but quickly realized they wanted their own stallion. In Oct. 2007 they bought Hootchy Kootchy Man, a son of Dual Pep and finished Cutting horse. Hootchy really set the bar for the Breeding and Performance Program. Moving to Wisconsin in 2008, Mark and Katie met JP Bell and were fortunate enough to show Hootchy in the summer of 2009 before losing him in Oct. 2009 to colic. Regrouping and reorganizing their program they are now focusing their Breeding Program around Snackbox, NCHA World Champion Stallion & son of Haidas Little Pep x Peppy San Badger. They now reside in Sturgis, SD. |

The broodmare band consists of "own daughters" and up and coming performance mares as well as NCHA money earners. Some of our favorite bloodlines that we feel compliment our stallions are: Grays Starlight, Smart Little Lena, Doc's Jack Sprat, Freckles Playboy, Doc Bar & Leo. |

Katie started riding horses before she could walk. Sharing a love of horses with her mom and sister, many hours were spent horseback and in the barn. Competing in 4-H, High School and College Rodeo, Reining, Team Penning, Barrel Racing and even Dressage she welcomed the challenge of Ranch Horse Competition, Cutting and Reined Cowhorse after Mark's Out West influence. Dragging calves at a branding and learning what kind of work a horse is expected to do on a ranch were real eye openers for a girl from MN. Katie enjoys working with the horses and starting the young horses before sending them to be finished in Cutting or Reined Cowhorse. Her first year competing in Cutting and Reined Cowhorse was 2009 and she walked away with wins in both events. |

Mark grew up raising and showing registered Hereford cattle and still has a small "herd" of beef cattle today. Working on ranches in SD he made his living horseback and learned that his horse was a vital partner on the ranch. His experience in custom haying & hauling hay and then working in the feed industry added to his "hands-on" knowledge of the ins and outs of operating a small business in the farm and ranch industry. Making friends with ranchers out west Mark was also able to enjoy his other passion of hunting on thousands of acres of private ranch land. Mark enjoys researching bloodlines and is quite involved in the breeding and business side of things. He attends all the shows and saddles up Snackbox when cattle need to be gathered. He has been known to have "an eye for a good horse." |

Hunter and Skyler are very busy boys. They like to help dad drive the tractor and help mom clean stalls. They love the horses and calves and they have ridden Hootchy Kootchy Man, Snackbox and their miniature horse "Chico". They are definitely little cowboys. |
